Play Dead
Despite my lifelong love for heavy metal, I do have my guilty pleasures too. Somewhere in the early 90's I first heard about Bjork, a female singer from Iceland. I was immediately fascinated. She is mysterious, her music has a dark an melancholic feeling and really grabs me by the balls.
'Play Dead' is an anthemic song, so when I came up with the idea of this cover EP, Bjork came to my mind as a must-cover song. In my cover versions I always create lots of space for guitar solos, and as always Timo Somers blew me away with his parts. In some parts we replaced vocals by guitarsolos, with stunning results. Timo nails it completely by catching the emotions of the vocals, as all of his solos caught the intensity of the song as a whole.
A crucial role in the song is also with Hans Pieters who recorded a very catchy bassline, which adds a lot of groove to the song. Another proof that it was a good decision to handover the bass to him!
Play Dead
Darling, stop confusing me
With your wishful thinking
Hopeful embraces
Don't you understand?
I have to go through this
I belong to here where no one cares and no one loves
No light, no air to live in
A place called hate
The city of fear
I play dead
It stops the hurting
I play dead
And the hurt stops
It's sometimes just like sleeping
Curling up inside my private tortures
I nestle into pain
Hug suffering
Caress every ache
I Play Dead
I Play Dead
I Play Dead
I Play Dead stops the hurting
I Play Dead
I Play Dead stops the hurting
I Play Dead
I Play Dead stops the hurting
Dead
Dead
Dead
Dead
