Jaded Eyes

'Jaded Eyes' goes back to the 80's when I was playing in my first metal band called 'Razor'. We always played this ballad called 'Fairy Child' and the song was also recorded on our 5-track demo back in 1984.

Back to 2020. Right after the release of 'Rise' when Covid's hell broke loose, I thought it would be a good idea to re-write and re-record all the 5 songs of that demo, starting with 'Fairy Child'.

'Jaded Eyes', as it landed on 'Here to Stay' has not become a a re-arrangement, nor re-recording of 'Fairy Child'. It has become a complete new song, however with the very recognizable acoustic toggling lick throughout the whole song, that came from 'Fairy Child'.

Keith wrote the lyrics and vocal melodies without having heard the original version of 'Fairy Child'. His starting point was the 'new song' that I handed to him, so Keith could work completely unbiased.

'Jaded Eyes' screamed for guitar solo-ing with lots of feel, blues and groove. Timo Somers was number 1 on my list since he has all that. Timo has so much blues, he's one of the few young players of the new generation that has developed these skills. The result is amazing, Timo is doing an awesome job!

In the demo days of 'Jaded Eyes' Timo recorded this cool video of him playing the main solo!

In September '23 I played 'Jaded Eyes' to Albert Kiefer, my long time friend from the 80's who wrote the original lick in 'Fairy Child' and I got his blessing for how that lick was treated!

JADED EYES

Baby

I’m just a boy inside your love

How could you make me

Believe in loneliness

Such a sad sad song

Tonight baby

The river runs deep

But I feel the tide run out

When did I lose your love

In a shadow of doubt

It’s like a bad sad dream

Tonight

Jaded eyes just keep on crying

You’re my superstar

But the truth just keeps on lying

So hard

Baby

I gave it everything I had

How could you break me

Burn my fate so bad

Ooh it’s a sad sad world

Tonight

Jaded eyes just keep on crying

You’re my superstar

But the truth just keeps on lying

No more, no more

All this time just keeps on dying

Baby

I’m just a boy inside your love

But don’t walk away cause the truth can’t keep lying no more

Jaded eyes just keep on crying

You’re my superstar

But the truth just keeps on lying

No more, no more

All this time just keeps on crying

No more, no more

Jaded eyes just keep on dying

Well don’t look down on it baby

Take my hand honey let it take us home

Yeah you can count on it baby

Take my hand mama let it take us home

Well don’t look down on it baby

Take my hand honey let it take us home

Yeah you can count on it baby

Take my hand mama let it take us home

So let it take you home

Time to take it home

But you can never wipe the jade

From these eyes

You’ll never wipe the jade

From these eyes
